instrumental-piano-musicWhile the life of a typical college student is a bit of a breeze – they don’t have to deal with the pressures of the “real world” – it’s not all fun and games. Parties and pregame tailgating sessions have their place, of course, but part of the challenge of the collegiate experience is in balancing one’s social life with academic pursuits. In my first few years of college, I developed a system that helped ease the transition from “business mode” to “party mode.”

Before going out on a Friday night, I would put on a CD full of upbeat rock songs or heavy-hitting rap anthems. It served as motivation and got me into the right mindset for going out on the town. Then, when it came time to study, I switched to a background of instrumental piano music. The soft piano strains were unassuming enough that they didn’t interfere with my concentration.
